Usman Khawaja marks his return in the longest format of the game after more than two years when he played in the Ashes in 2019. Usman Khawaja will be replacing Travis Head. Travis Head tested positive for the COVID test. England brought in Stuart Broad for an injured Ollie Robinson.
On a day when rain was the protagonist. Almost two sessions were washed off and but the umpires decided to extend the play till 19:00 hrs. David Warner and Marcus Harris opened for Australia. Despite Warner looking in good form, Broad bowled a ripper a tame the Australia opener. Marcus Harris and Marnus Labuschagne were looking to steady the ship but Jimmy Anderson and Mark Wood struck in successive overs to reduce Australia to 117/3. Steven Smith and Usman Khawaja came to bat to take Australia through day 1 of the 4th test before rain stopped the play again.
Khawaja and Smith will be looking to build a handsome Partnership on the second day of the test to post a mammoth total. Australia will eye a whitewash as they are already leading 3-0 in the 5 match test series.
