Ashes 2021: Jonny Bairstow rescues England from yet another nightmare

England is still in the game after a swashbuckling century from Jonny Bairstow. England were at 258/7 at stumps. Australia will be kicking themselves for letting Mark Wood thwart them all around the park. If Australian pacers do not remove Jonny Bairstow early in the morning on day 4 this game is well on its course for a draw.

Australian pacers were too hot to handle for the English Batters in the first session of the third day. Haseeb Hameed departed early in the day and later England witnessed another collapse as they were reduced to 36/4 with Zak Crawley, Joe Root, and Dawid Malan back in the hut. Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow helped England avoid the follow on building a 128 runs partnership before Nathan Lyon got the better of Stokes. Jonny Bairstow was on song today as he went on to smash his 7th century in his Test career. He is batting at 103* from just 140 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes. He batted along with Mark Wood who scored 39 off just 41 balls to frustrate the Aussies. If England are still in this game, there is only one man responsible and that is Bairstow. Jos Buttler is having a horrific tour registering another duck to his name. England finished the day at 258/7 and are still trailing by 158 runs. Pat Cummins and Scott Boland picked up 2 wickets each whereas Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon picked up a wicket apiece.
