After losing three wickets on the first day, Steven Smith and Usman Khawaja built a 115 runs stand to restore Australia’s dominance. Steven Smith scored 67 off 141 deliveries before Stuart Broad got the better of him. Cameron Green could not survive as Broad picked up his third of the game. Alex Carey never really settled and he was sent back courtesy of Jonny Bairstow’s brilliant catch off Joe Root’s bowling. Pat Cummins nicked one off his gloves after adding 24 runs with his bat. Usman Khawaja was taken out by Broad with an absolute ripper. Khawaja was phenomenal with the bat scoring 137 off 260 balls. He scored his 9th century in test cricket. Mitchell Starc added 34 runs off 60 balls and Nathan Lyon was in the mood as he scored 16 off just 7 deliveries with 2 fours and a six. Australia declared at 416/8. Stuart Broad was the pick of the bowlers with 5 wickets to his name.
England will have to prove all the pundits wrong to survive this test match or else a 4-0 is looking very likely on the cards.
