
Indian Cricket Team after completing their tour of England is now moving towards its bilateral series with West Indies. The England series consisted of 1 Re-scheduled Test from 2021, 3 T20s and 3 ODIs. The Test was won by England which led to the series ending in a draw. The T20 series went in India’s favor as India won the series by 2-1 and defeated the No 1 T20 team, Acc to ICC Ranking. The ODI Series was also won by Indian in the series decider which was also a nail biter.
Indian completed their tour of England on 17th July and is now going to West Indies for their new Tour. India is touring West Indies for a 3 match ODI series and a 5 match T20 series which started yesterday on 22nd July and will go on till 7th August. BCCI had announced the ODI Squad a couple of days ago and it excluded all the senior players of the series like Virat Kohli , Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah. Shikhar Dhawan was named the 7th Captain of India in 2022.
Yesterday was the 1st ODI of the series and India had to bat first as they lost the toss. Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill gave a solid start to the Indian innings. They made a partnership of 111 runs when Gill was dismissed. Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan also made a huge partnership of over 100 runs but Shikhar lost his wicket at the score of 97 and missed his century by just 3 runs. Later, all Indian batsman started giving up their wicket and the projected score of 350-380 was reduced and India scored 308 runs in 50 overs.
The West Indies batsman came out to bat and lost their first wicket in just the starting few overs. Later a big partnership between Brooks and Mayers helped the Indies as they scored 117 runs together and Thakur again came in and broke the partnership by taking wickets of both the batsman back to back in 2 overs. The match went on to be a nail biter as the West Indies batsman played very well and saved their wickets and and registered great partnerships. Brandon King’s wicket at the score of 252 by Chahal was a turning point. Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd tried very hard and needed just 15 runs of the last over and they fell short by just 4 runs from the target.
West Indies’ score at the end of 50 overs was 305/6 and India won the nail biter by just 3 runs. The second ODI will be played on 24th July.
