Commonwealth Games 2022: India wins historic gold medal in Lawn Bowls after a thrilling match against SA

Good news for India from Commonwealth Games 2022 as India has clinched a historic gold medal in lawn bowls women’s fours by defeating South Africa 17-10 in the final. Lovely Choubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinki and Nayanmoni Saikia made history as they became the first Indians in Commonwealth Games history to win a gold medal in the sport. Team India won gold beating their opponents 17-10. Presently, India has now won ten medals at CWG 2022 in Birmingham and is still in the contest for more today.

Whenever a team wins gold, it inspires thousands of people to take up the sport and excel and this is their first victory and truly a historic one. After facing some trouble in the semi finals match against New Zealand, people were not confident of the gold today but the girls have shown the entire world, the magic of determination and hard work.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, ” A Historic Gold for India in Commonwealth Games, Lawn Bowls! Absolutely ecstatic that our Women’s Fours Team – Lovely Choubey, Pinki , Nayanmoni Saikia & Rupa Rani Tirkey has fetched the nation its first ever Lawn Bowls medal defeating South Africa 17-10 in the final !” 

Prime Minster Narendra Modi said on Twitter, “Historic win in Birmingham! India is proud of Lovely Choubey, Pinki Singh, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani Tirkey for bringing home the prestigious Gold in Lawn Bowls. The team has demonstrated great dexterity and their success will motivate many Indians towards Lawn Bowls.”

India awaits more medals in Birmingham today and the most awaited result is that of badminton which is ongoing now.
