Falguni Nayar is now India’s richest self-made woman billionaire. She’s the CEO and founder of Nykaa, a beauty and self-care brand. Nykaa’s share closed 96% higher on 10 November valuing Nayar’s wealth at $6.5 billion and making her the richest self-made woman entrepreneur.

Nykaa was founded by Falguni Nayar in the year 2012. She was a 49-year-old investment banker at Kotak Mahindra Capital Co. She left the job to build her empire, which crossed Rs 1 lakh crore in market capitalisation on its listing debut. In 2020, the company was valued at ₹85 billion making it the first unicorn startup headed by a woman in India.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw 

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, the executive chairperson and founder of Biocon Limited and Biocon Biologics Limited, a biotechnology company. She became the only female entrepreneurs from Indian on the list of the world’s self-made women billionaires. She’s also the first Indian businesswoman to reach a net worth of USD 1 billion. Biocon was founded in 1978 and its headquarter is based in Bengaluru. For her contribution to the innovation of Biotechnology, she won 2 Indian Civilian awards, the Padma Shri in 1989 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005.


Divya Gokulnath 

Divya Gokulnath is the co-founder and director of Byjus. Byjus is an educational technology company, an online learning program for students to learn from the best. It’s Indian’s largest ed-tech company launched in 2015. Divya Gokulnath won an award in MAKERS India Conference, Entrepreneur of the Year, Women Who Make India Awards in 2020 for her huge contribution to the ed-tech sector.

Byju’s provided free access in the covid-19 lockdown times adding 13.5 million users in March and April 2020. And the Byjus family became a total of 50 million and by September 2020 Byjus had 70 million students and 4.5 million subscribers, making Divya Gokulnath, the most successful self-made woman entrepreneur. She also won awards at Femina Power List, Forbes Asia’s Power Businesswomen and Fortune India Most Powerful Women in 2020 and LinkedIn top voices 2019-2020, India.
