Google banned 5.2 billion ads in 2022 due to content violations

The 2022 Advertising Safety Report, which lists all of the ads and websites that Google took action against over the last year, was just released by Google. And the overall volume of acts is very stunning.

As per Google –
“Our continued investment in policy development and enforcement enabled us to block or remove over 5.2 billion ads, restrict over 4.3 billion ads, and suspend over 6.7 million advertiser accounts. And we blocked or restricted ads from serving more than 1.57 billion publisher pages and across more than 143,000 publisher sites, up from 63,000 in 2021.”

About 2.5 billion advertisements were blocked for several reasons, including trademark infringement, legal restrictions, and misrepresentation in the promotions.
The stated reason, however, is “Abusing the Ad Network,” which essentially has to do with spammers and con artists trying to con users.

While also considering legal action against many websites that participated in its AdSense program, which lets publishers show Google adverts on their websites.
The improper and harmful content on these sites was a major factor in the decision to impose these limitations.

A completely different aspect of Google’s content enforcement work has been the removal of over 50,000 YouTube channels and AdSense accounts created by influence operations operating in China, among other places.

As you can see, spammers and scammers constantly adapt their strategies, and they continue to be very active online. The statistics highlight the necessity for platforms to be watchful as they take steps to protect their audience.
