Google Doodle pays tribute to inventor of espresso machine, Angelo Moriondo

Google celebrates 171st birth anniversary of godfather of espresso machines.

Google celebrates Angelo Moriondo’s 171st birth anniversary, who is considered the godfather of espresso machines with an artistic doodle. This doodle has been created by Olivia When which features a GIF of the first known espresso machine which looks like it has been painted with coffee.

Google India twitted a fact which refers to coffee in an upside down font style:-

Angelo Moriondo was a Italian inventor know for his invention of the espresso machine.He was born on June 6 1851 Turin,Kindom of Sardinia.This machine was used to brew coffee. The machine used a combination of steam and boiling water to efficiently brew coffee. Moriondo patented the first known espresso machine.

In 18th century, coffee was the hottest items aroud Italy. But because of the brewing methods, customers had to wait for 5-10 minutes to receive their drinks. So from that Angelo created the first espresso machine.

Moriondo’s machine consisted of a large bolier that pushed hot water through a bed of coffee ground and the second bolier produced steam which would flash the bed of coffee and complete the brew.

Angelo was born and brought up in a entrepreneurial family. His grandfather founded a Liquor producing company which was later run by his father Giacomo.

The espresso machine was presented in a general expo of Turin in 1884. The machine got patent rights of six years on 16th may 1884 under the title “New steam machinery for the economic and instantaneous confection of coffee beverage, method ‘A. Moriondo’.” And the machine won a bronze medal. The invention was regularly updated and was got patent rights after every update.
