Haryana: FIR against Sports minister Sandeep Singh for sexual harrasment

Sandeep Singh, a former India captain of the hockey team, made a successful start to his political career in 2019, becoming Haryana’s sports minister.

The junior athletics coach who accused Haryana Sports Minister Sandeep Singh of sexual harassment lodged a police complaint against him on Friday. The FIR is based on a women coach’s complaint.

On Thursday, the woman made the accusation during a press conference held at the opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) office. The minister, however, dismissed the allegations as baseless and called for an independent probe.

The allegation has been made against Haryana sports minister Sandeep Singh but that doesn’t mean he is guilty. He has been removed from the ministry so that a fair probe can be carried out, says chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Within hours after registration of a criminal case at a police station in Chandigarh on Sunday, Sandeep Singh surrendered charge as Haryana sports minister.

“An environment has been created to tarnish my image and a junior coach of the sports department had leveled false allegations. Investigations are in progress. Hence, on moral grounds, I handover my sports department to honourable chief minister. I want an impartial probe so that actual things should come out,” said Sandeep Singh in a tweet.
