“Koo is a Thoughts and Opinion sharing micro-blogging platform. Discussions are around interesting topics. It empowers people to express their thoughts in the Indian language with a strong knit local Indian community”
The self-proclaimed “Voice of India” is branded as the new Twitter alternative for India. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal earlier tweeted about the new app. Even the logo of Koo is similar to that of Twitter, if Twitter uses bluebird as the logo Koo uses a yellow bird.
The platform can be accessed both through the dedicated app and website and unlike Twitter you need a valid sim card to initiate the new app. The app is available for both iOS and Android platforms.
Koo can basically do anything a Twitter account does although its character count is restricted to 400. It can share photos, videos, posts, follow people, hashtag an event or tag a person.
The platform includes a wide range of Indian languages like – Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, official says that more languages will be integrated shortly into the app.
“Just 10% of India speaks English. Almost 1 billion people in India don’t know English. Instead, they speak one of India’s 100s of languages. They are now getting access to smartphones and would love the internet in their language. However, the majority of the internet has been in English. Koo is an attempt to make the voice of these Indians heard,”App makers
