Today is the Day 2 of the 1st Test match between India and Sri Lanka. The first session went totally to the side of the Indian team. Yesterday stumps was announced when India was at 357/6 with Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin batting on the crease. Jadeja was nearing his half-century as he was 45 runs and Ashwin had just entered to bat 10 minutes ago and he was batting at 10 runs.
The Day 2 started with all the players coming out of both the teams with black armbands on their jerseys. All the players stood in silence for 2 minutes in the memory of Shane Warne and Rod Marsh, two Australian Cricketers who passed away in less than 24 hours yesterday. The play started after honoring their memory.
The first session ended with Ravindra Jadeja’s century and R Ashwin’s wicket and Lunch was taken when India’s score was 468/7 with Jadeja and Jayant Yadav batting. Jayant Yadav lost his wicket early in the second session and it looked like India’s innings will get over soon but Jadeja and Shami had different plans for the Sri Lankan team as they stood their ground and gave India the score they needed.
Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja registered a partnership of over 100 runs. Mohammed Shami made 20 runs in the partnership and all the rest of the contribution was from Sir Jadeja. Ravindra Jadeja scored an unbeaten 175 of 228 balls which included 17 fours and 3 sixes. Rohit Sharma called the players back and declared the Indian innings. Jadeja could have scored his first double century but Rohit Sharma wanted to give his bolers some time to take a good amount of wickets in the third session . Jadeja registered the highest ever score by an Indian No.7 batsman.
Tea was taken when India declared at the score of 574/8. Sri Lankan batsman will start their batting innings in the third session of Day 2.
