Indian railway plans to make 500 Tejas-style AC sleeper coaches; Here’s what we know

Indian railway has decided to introduce 500 Tejas style AC sleepers in the coming year to replace the premium coaches available in the country right now. The initiative is to gradually replace the existing premium class trains from Indian rails. The first one to fall for this new ‘era of train travel experience’ as stated by the national transporter is a Rajadhani express that connects between Agartala and Delhi. The inauguration ride is proposed to be on February 15.

The new coach is designed with the usual category inclusion of – First AC, AC 2-tier, and AC- 3 tier. Modern Coach Factory Rae Bareli and Integral Coach Factory in Chennai is the production house for the 500 modern coaches. The project timeframes to one year starting from 2021.

The maroon accent for an overall beige clour tone is used which resembles that of the existing Tejas class coaches.

The new feature of the coach include:

  • PU form for better passenger comfort.
  • Efficient reading lights for each birth.
  • Air quality check for AC.
  • Each birth with separate mobile charging points.
  • Roller blinds on the window.
