The most awaited day in IPL has arrived. The D-day is here. All the speculations about who is in the team and who is out of the team will all be cleared today as the official announcement will be done today at 9:30 PM. While some reports state that MS Dhoni would not be retained by Chennai Super Kings, some reports state that he will be. But according to many reports, there are rumors that Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are the three players that will be sure shot retained by their respective teams. The things have heated up even more with addition of two new teams in IPL. Lucknow and Ahmedabad will also be bidding for the players in IPL auction 2022. According to BBCI’s retaining policy, all teams are allowed to retain only four players from each team. We are literally hours away from the announcement. The players’ retention is a pre-cursor to what lies in store ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, which is expected to take place in December. The franchises have been scratching their heads as they have just a few more hours to name their retentions and they will have to make it very wiser as well. The mega auction in 2018 was a grand success and the same could be expected this year as well. The IPL 2022 mega auction is likely to take place in the first week of January with the dates not revealed yet. The auction timing will be 3:30 PM IST and the venue is yet to be confirmed. The IPL 2022 is also likely to get underway on April 2 with 74 matches this time around after the inclusion of two new teams. The retention rules for all the teams would be slightly different this time than the previous auction. There will be no RTM cards this time. The maximum limit for the purchase of players would be 90 crore. All the teams can retain maximum 3 Indian players. Two new teams Lucknow and Ahmedabad can retain three players that will go into the auction pool before the end of December and their criteria will be a maximum of two Indian players and one overseas.

Deductions for the players are as follows:

  1. If four players are retained by the team deductions are
  • Player 1 – 16 crore
  • Player 2 – 12 crore
  • Player 3 – 8 crore
  • Player 4 – 6 crore

2. If three players are retained by the team deductions are

  • Player 1- 15 crore
  • Player 2- 11 crore
  • Player 3- 7 crore

3. If two players are retained by the team deductions are

  • Player 1 – 14 crore
  • Player 2- 10 crore

4. If one player is retained by the team deductions are

  • Player 1- 14 crore
