At the IPL 2023 season opener between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ruturaj Gaikwad lit the place on fire. After Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to put MS Dhoni’s team into bat, Ruturaj scored the first half-century of the new season, reaching the milestone in just 23 deliveries.
During Alzarri Joseph’s opening over of the evening in Ahmedabad, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored the sixth-quickest fifty for Chennai Super Kings in IPL history. Gaikwad struck three sixes against a West Indies fast bowler who was in great form after a recent series victory over South Africa.
Ruturaj Gaikwad tore into the Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack, taking their pacers to the cleaners in front of a packed audience away from home. By the time he reached his fifty, he had hit five sixes and three boundaries.

Despite Rashid Khan taking two significant wickets, including those of Moeen Ali and CSK debutant Ben Stokes after Mohammed Shami had taken the early wicket of opener Devon Conway, Chennai Super Kings quickly reached the 100-run milestone in just the 11th over. Gaikwad continued to put pressure on Gujarat Titans bowlers despite frequently losing teammates.
With 635 runs for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021, Ruturaj Gaikwad won the Orange Cap, but he only made 368 runs at an average of under 30 the previous year.
