Jeff Bezos says he will give away most of his fortune to charity

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos whose real time worth Forbes magazine estimates approximately $121.1 billion, said that he will give away the majority of his wealth to charity. He made this announcement in a joint CNN interview with his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez.

In an interview released on Monday, Bezos said he and his partner were”building the capacity to be able to give away this money.” When he was asked whether he wishes to donate most of his wealth within his lifetime he said,”Yeah, i do.” This made him the latest billionaire to pledge to donate his vast fortune during his lifetime. He said,”It’s really hard. And there are bunch of ways, I think, that you could do ineffective things.”

Previously his largest donation was $2 billion gift to help homeless families and start preschools. Bezos was criticized for not signing the Giving Pledge. This is a commitment given by many wealthiest Americans to give away half of their fortunes which was initiated by Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffet and others. Bezos ex-wife MacKenzie Scott signed the pledge after their divorce.
