The Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire was given to Vineet Bhatia, the first chef of Indian origin to obtain a Michelin star (MBE). The well-known restaurateur, who is also an author, received an MBE, making him the first Indian-born chef to receive a Michelin star.
To share the wonderful news, he posted to social media. “Honored to be the first Michelin-starred chef of Indian origin to be awarded an MBE. A wonderful privilege to have the opportunity to make the world ‘See things differently’ about the United Kingdom, “he also added, “I dedicate this to my mother and wife for their unconditional love and support”.
An MBE is given out for “performance or service in and to the community which is excellent in its area and has achieved sustained and substantial effect and stands out as an example to others,” according to the UK government. The award was given to Chef Bhatia in recognition of his contributions to “UK cuisine, hospitality, and international trade.”
Chef Vineet Bhatia owns several restaurants all around the world and has written popular cookbooks. Also, he made an appearance as a judge on The Final Table on Netflix and Season 6 of MasterChef India.
