Actress Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, and 35 other people were named in draft charges submitted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday. According to the facts and statements, the prosecution has asked the court to indict Rhea and Showik for consuming drugs as well as for obtaining and paying for them for Sushant’s suicide case. The actor was found dead in his house in Mumbai on 14 June 2020. The special court was set to file charges against each defendant, according to the special public prosecutor. However, it was difficult to proceed because some of the accused filed for the discharge application. On Wednesday (22 June 2022), Rhea, Showik, and the other defendants appeared before the court. The case’s next hearing is set for July 12 in front of the special judge V G Raghuwanshi and cases pertaining to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Back in September 2020, Rhea was arrested in the same case. Later on, the Bombay High Court granted her bail after 1 month after her arrest. NCB has been hunting the alleged drug consumption in the Indian film and television industry following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput who was found hanging in his apartment in suburban Bandra on June 14, 2020. CBI has a close watch on the suspects concerned with Rajput’s case.
