Notable work by Malayalam director Ali Akbar

Ali Akbar who was born 20 February 1963, is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and lyricist who works in Malayalam cinema. He directed more than 20 Malayalam movies, including Grama Panchayath, Bamboo boys, Junior Mandrake, Kudumba varthaakal and Pai Brothers. In 2020, Ali Akbar announced a new movie to be produced through crowd funding, titled 1921: Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare, based on the 1921 Malabar rebellion. occurred in the Northern Kerala. Ali Akbar received the Kerala State Film Award for the Best Debut Director in the year 1988 for the movie Mamalakalkkappurathu. Along with a director, he is also a lyricist and a screenwriter.

He worked as a lyricist and director of the film Junior Mandrake. In 1998, he directed Kudumba Vaarthakal. After that, in 1999 he directed Swastham Grihabharanam. In 2002, he worked as writer, lyricist and director in Bamboo Boys. In 2002, he worked as director, writer, lyricist and also editor for movie Senior Mandrake. In 2011, he worked as lyricist, editor and cinematographer in Achan. In 2012, he worked in Ideal Couple as writer, lyricist, editor and also director. most recently, in 2021 he worked as director, writer, lyricist for the movie 1921: Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare.

He has received many awards for his noble work in the industry. In 1998, he won Kerala State Film Award for best debut director and 1996 he won 44th National Film Award for best educational/motivational/ instructional film.
