Oliveira defeats Poirier to take home the undisputed belt in UFC 269

Charles Oliveira defended his UFC lightweight title for the first time by submitting Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 269 today in Las Vegas. This contest had the fight of the year written all over it with Oliveira on 9 fight win streak and holds the record for most submission wins(14) and finishes(17) in UFC history. On the other side, Poirier beat Conor McGregor twice in 2021 and holds the record for most knockouts in UFC lightweight division history(8).

Poirier was fighting for the undisputed belt for the second time in his career, but Oliveira ended his run quite handsomely via submission. Poirier (28-7) tapped out to a rear-naked choke against Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2019. Khabib fought once more before retiring and gave away the undisputed gold.
