Pat Cummins Scalps fifer as England bundled out for 147 on Day 1 at Gabba

The Ashes is the biggest rivalry in sports and Australia has certainly asserted their dominance over England on day 1 here at Gabba. Alex Carey was handed the 461 baggy green who was held by the great Adam Gilchrist. England won the toss and chose to bat. Englishmen got off to a very poor start as Rory Burns was dismissed on the very first ball of the innings and soon England was reduced to 11/3. Mitchell Starc bowled an absolute cracker to give Australia a dominant start and later Josh Hazelwood joined the party taking out Dawid Malan and the England captain Joe Root who was caught behind for naught. Even now England did not know about the storm that was coming for them, Pat Cummins took a fifer to send England packing for 147.

The Australian pacers were breathing fire, Pat Cummins finished with 5/38, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood finished with 2/35 and 2/42 respectively and Cameron Green took his first wicket in test cricket. Although Jos Buttler(39) stitched a 52 runs stand with Ollie Pope(35) to rescue England after they were reduced to 60/5. Chris Woakes scored a quick 21 runs knock to give England something to defend. A storm hit Brisbane right after England’s innings that halted the play and later in the day, the play was stopped due to bad light. Australia will look to impose a massive first innings lead.
