Pharmaceutical Distributors Association Issues Warning Against Startup Funded on Shark Tank India

The South Chemists and Distributors Association (SCDA) of Delhi has issued a warning to the epharmacy startup Pharmallama and its investors, following the startup’s funding on the Indian TV show Shark Tank. Pharmallama offers a unique ‘full-service pharmacy and comprehensive medication management platform,’ which delivers pre-sorted sachets of medications to users. In a letter to the startup’s founders and the Health Ministry, the SCDA has alleged that Pharmallama’s operations are illegal and should be immediately shut down in the public interest. The SCDA claims that operating an epharmacy is against the Indian law and that there is no regulation allowing the repackaging of medicines in the country. The warning highlights the growing concern among traditional pharmaceutical distributors about the rise of epharmacies and their impact on the industry.
