Remembering Dilip Kumar’s legacy on his birthday

The tragedy king Dilip Kumar turns 99 today and today is the day Bollywood misses his presence the most. He has been part of industry for five decades. Dilip Kumar holds the record for winning the maximum number of Filmfare awards. He was the inaugural recipient of the award and won the best actor Filmfare Award eight times. In his five-decade-long career, he contributed to Hindi cinema in different ways, including the introduction of the method acting technique. Let us remember him today for his mind blowing performances in Indian cinema:

1. Mughal-e-azam

Dilip Kumar’s most popular movie of all time and famous till date is Mughal-ae-azam. This movie was released 1960 and it has won two filmfare awards. This is  a 1960 Indian epic historical drama film directed by K. Asif and produced by Shapoorji Pallonji. This film was a blockbuster and still a favorite movie of all time.

2. Kranti

Kranti is one of the best movie India has ever seen. This film celebrated golden jubilee in many centers across India. It ran for 67 weeks straight in the theatres including a theatre where it was house full for 96 days. The film was declared a historic blockbuster, along with its soundtrack. It was one of the most expensive Indian films of the time. Kranti is the biggest patriotic hit ever seen in India. It was the second highest grossing Indian film ever behind Sholay (1975) at the time of its release.

3. Saudagar

Saudagar  is a 1991 Indian Hindi drama film, directed by Subhash Ghai It starred two legends of the Hindi silver screen, Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar, in the leading roles. The film was a Silver Jubilee success all over India and was a hit. Saudagar got director Subhash Ghai his only Filmfare best director award. 

4. Ram aur Shyam

Ram aur Shyam is Indian comedy drama. Ram Aur Shyam was the second highest-grossing Indian film of 1967, domestically in India and overseas. It was listed at number 15 in “Top 50 Film of Last 50 years” list compiled Box Office India magazine in 2011 which feature all-time highest grossing Bollywood films of all the time by using the relative price of gold in different years to arrive at a hypothetical current value of box-office collections of past films.

5. Madhumati

Madhumati was one of the earliest films to deal with reincarnation, and was described by analysts as a potboiler that has a gothic and noir feel to it. It inspired later regional and international films that have reincarnation-based themes. It won 9 Filmfare Awards; including Best Film, Best Director, Best Music Director, Best Female playback singer, Best Dialogue, Best art direction and best cinematographer—the most awards for a film at that time—a record that it maintained for record 37 years. It also won the National Film Award for Best Feature film in Hindi.
