Sanju Samson will miss the T20Is due to a knee injury; Jitesh Sharma will replace him

Punjab King’s wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma, who made a strong impression with his IPL 2022 performances, has been included in the Indian T20I team for the last two T20Is against Sri Lanka as a replacement for the injured Sanju Samson.

Sanju Samson suffered a knee injury during the opening T20I match of the series against Sri Lanka in Mumbai on January 3 and the BCCI has stated that he would miss the remaining T20I matches. The second T20I will be played in Pune on Thursday, January 5, but Samson has not headed there with the rest of the team.
Sanju Samson has remained in Mumbai for evaluation because of swelling in his knee. Samson was fielding in the third-man area when his leg became numb from getting trapped in the ground. The BCCI Medical Team brought him to Mumbai this afternoon for scans and a specialist’s assessment, and they suggested rest and therapy. Sanju dived along the boundary in the 13th over of Sri Lanka’s chase of 163 to save a Dasun Shanka shot from reaching the boundary. Samson’s leg became trapped in the slick ground as he reached for the ball, ripping a sizable piece of grass out with it. Umran Malik, the bowler, had a dejected expression on his face as the ball reached the boundary.
Even though Samson was in pain, he continued to bat and maintain wicket as India went on to defeat Sri Lanka by 2 runs in a last-ball thriller while successfully defending a 161-run target.
