Stephanie Frappart The First Women Referee In FIFA Men’s World Cup History

Football referee Stephanie Frappart is from France. She has refereed several high profile matches since joining the FIFA International Referees List in 2009.

She became the first woman to officiate a UEFA Champions League match in 2020 as well as the first woman to referee a big men’s European competition in 2019 and a French Ligue 1 match, also Frappart became the first female match referee for a men’s World Cup Qualifying match in 2021. She was one of the three female referees chosen to referee the men’s World Cup in 2022.

After FIFA announced on Tuesday that Stephanie Frappart will referee the Group E match between Germany and Costa Rica on 1 November, she will make history as the first woman to officiate a men’s World Cup game.

An all-female refereeing team will be present on the field with Neuza Back of Brazil and Karen Diaz Medina of Mexico performing as Frappart’s assistants.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 is significant for a number of reasons, including the possibility that many of our legendary footballers won’t play in another world cup after this one.
