Star batter Suryakumar Yadav broke Shikhar Dhawan’s record for most T20I runs in a calendar year for the Indian cricket team during the series opener against South Africa on Wednesday in Thiruvananthapuram. Notably, Surya needed eight more runs to break Dhawan’s T20I record before the series against South Africa. The 32-year-old batter achieved the milestone with a six off South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje during an Indian innings on Wednesday.

Suryakumar Yadav has been an unconquerable beast ever since he made his international debut in 2021 following a few very good Indian Premier League seasons because of his tendency to target bowlers from the very first ball. After first showing promise in 2021, Suryakumar has significantly improved and is currently the highest run-scorer in 2022 in the shortest format. He has played 20 matches and has 682 runs scored at an aggregate of 37.88 while scoring a century and four half-centuries.

He is known as India’s Mr. 360 because of his effortless sweep shots, admirable wrist work, and ability to hit the ball all over the field and find gaps. His admirers have compared him to players like the legendary Australian cricketer Michael Bevan and the iconic South African batsman AB De Villiers, due to his skills and determination to execute the perfect finishing.

Suryakumar jumped to No.2 after his scintillating 69 off 36 deliveries in the third T20I against Australia in Hyderabad. His knock helped India chase down the target of 187 and win the series 2-1. Yadav is expected to play an important role when India go to Australia for the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup.
