TATA IPL 2022: Ravi Ashwin Becomes the First Cricketer Ever to get Retired Out in the IPL History

Yesterday, Rajasthan sealed of their third victory in the IPL against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Yesterday was the match between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants. We are in the third week of the TATA IPL 2022, and we have seen many thrilling matches and understood that the chasing team has a better chance at winning. But yesterday, Rajasthan Royals proved us wrong and defeated Lucknow Super Giants but 3 runs. There were several great performances in the match which were worth watching.

After the collapse of Rajasthan’s top order in the first innings, Shimron Hetmyer handled the innings and scored a very valuable 59 runs of 36. R Ashwin also scored 28 and gave support to Hetmyer during the innings. They brought up a good 68 run partnership and saved Rajasthan from a big defeat. Yuzvendra Chahal took 4 important wickets of the LSG Batters and almost sealed of the victory. He was also awarded the man of the match. Trent Boult took two wickets in the first two balls of KL Rahul and Krishnappa Gowtham which put RR in a very strong position.

But above all of this we saw something unique and different on the field yesterday, something that happened for the very first time in the IPL. In the first innings, Hetmyer was hitting the ball perfectly and Ashwin was supporting him by strike rotation. Ashwin hit two sixes back to back but after that he was not able to hit the ball. he tried up until the 19th over but realised that Riyan Parag might hit a couple of sixes, so he decided to get retired out and let Riyan Parag take his place.

After the 2nd ball of the 19th over he left the field and Riyan Parag walked in. This was the first time in IPL  history that a player was retired out. This was a very bold and mature move by Ashwin. Later, Riyan Parag hit a six in the 20th over. Shimron Hetmyer had later said that he had no idea that Ashwin was goin to get retiired out and also said that he just turned around and saw Ashwin going back to the pavilion.
