Tata Is Backing A Startup Called Goodfellows…Tap For More

Goodfellows is a Mumbai-based startup that connects the elderly to youngsters willing to aid them as companions. It has raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from Ratan Tata, chairman of the prestigious Tata Sons. “The bonds between the two generations created by Goodfellows are very meaningful and are helping to address an important social issue in India. I hope the investment helps the young team at Goodfellows grow,” Tata said.

The humble startup was founded six months ago by Ratan Tata’s general manager, Shantanu Naidu. During the beta stage, 20 applicants were chosen in Mumbai. According to Goodfellows, candidates for the position of companion are carefully screened for “empathy” and “emotional intelligence.”

With aspirations to expand to Pune, Chennai, and Bengaluru, it is emerging from the beta phase and is prepared to provide its services to the elderly in Mumbai. The company places a strong emphasis on companionship, which can be as easy as taking a stroll, watching a movie, or having a talk. With the support of Tata and the youth, Goodfellows can transform the lives of several senior citizens.
