The milk crates challenge is a video challenge that went viral online in August 2021. The challenge involves stacking milk crates into the pyramid-like shape, with both sides of the pyramid functioning as stairs. Tik Tok banned the challenge on August 27. The app banned this is due to the concerns that users participating in the trend could be seriously injured. The challenge scenes include taking milk crates into the pyramid and then attempting to climb across the unstable structure. A spokesperson from the company told that Tik Tok prohibits content that promotes or glorifies dangerous acts. Hence they removed the videos and redirected searches to their community guidelines to discourage such content.
They encouraged everyone to exercise caution in their behavior whether online or offline. The ban comes after several healthcare workers took to social media to voice their concerns about the trend and the danger it posed to those participating in it. Tik Tok’s rise to popularity has seen numerous dangerous challenges go viral on the platform over the past few years. In 2019 also the trend “throw it in the air” went viral where the users formed a circle where nobody is allowed to move and then put a phone on the floor to record them showing an item up in the air. Last year the skull breaker trend also went viral on the app. Dangerous trends like this including the milk crate challenge have forced Tik Tok to take action to prevent its users from putting themselves into harmful situations. Appreciation to Tik Tok for being concerned regarding the safety issues of its users.
