Top 5 Bollywood controversies of 2022

Controversy and the entertainment industry go together! And in 2022, there were a lot of them.

Bollywood celebrities are notorious for getting involved in a variety of issues, and this year was no different, as was already said.

As 2022 comes to a close, we thought it would be amusing to reflect on some of the most hotly debated subjects.

Effects of the boycott movement on Laal Singh Chaddha

Twitter users asked audiences to boycott “Laal Singh Chaddha” before the movie was released in theatres by using the hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha. People only understood the significance of what at first seemed to be a few trolls generating some alarm about the movie when it was declared a box office flop.

Some Twitter users dug up Aamir’s controversial statement regarding “India’s increasing intolerance” from the past and distributed it there. In the past, Kareena has made some contentious online remarks as well.

Aamir Khan addressed the controversial statement in an interview from 2015, saying, “Our country is incredibly accepting, but there are individuals who cultivate ill-will.” When she revealed that she had considered leaving the country for the sake of their children’s safety, his wife Kiran Rao also attracted media attention.

At the box office, the film eventually failed to bring in any money.

Jury chair for The Kashmir Files v. IFFI Nadav Lapid

The Kashmir Files was shown at the International Film Festival of India, which was held in Goa last month. However, when the jury’s chair, Nadav Lapid, addressed the audience during the IFFI closing ceremony and called the film “propaganda, filthy,” things became violent.

“The Kashmir Files, the fifteenth film, terrified and upset us all. That seemed to be a crude, propaganda movie that had no business competing in the aesthetic division of such a prestigious film festival. I feel entirely comfortable sharing these sentiments with you at this time. In the spirit of this festival, we can undoubtedly welcome a critical conversation that is essential to both art and daily life.” Nadav also mentioned the festival’s closing ceremony.

After that, he faced criticism from a variety of sources, including filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, who tasked Nadav with proving that the film is factually inaccurate. He declared: “I challenge every single one of these urban Naxals, along with the well-known Israeli filmmaker, saying that if they can prove that even one scene, discussion, or line of dialogue is not absolutely genuine, I will cease making movies. Who are these people who continually criticize India?”

Nude photoshoot of Ranveer Singh

Ranveer made headlines earlier this year by posing in a magazine photo shoot while naked. After that, he was the subject of an FIR.

The Mumbai Police filed the FIR in compliance with many provisions of the Information Technology Act as well as sections 292 (selling of obscene literature, etc.), 293 (sale of obscene products to young people), and 509 (statement, gesture, or act intended to insult a woman’s modesty).

Photos from Ranveer’s photoshoot were posted online on July 21. It’s possible to see Ranveer in them naked. In one of the images, he could be seen reclining on a mat in a naked state, replicating Burt Reynolds’ well-known pose.

Liger funding investigation

The ED questioned actor Vijay Deverakonda for more than nine hours in relation to the PMLA case after receiving a report stating that a major Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader had spent hawala money in the movie “Liger.”

According to sources, Vijay was questioned on an alleged FEMA breach (Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999).

The producer of “Liger,” Charmme Kaur, was questioned by the ED earlier on November 17 for a potential FEMA breach.

The movie “Liger” did poorly at the box office and did not win over the audience.

The matter is currently being investigated by the authorities.

 Jacqueline’s link to Conman Sukesh

On August 17, 2022, the ED filed a new charge sheet in the Rs 200 crore extortion case against conman Sukesh Chandrashekar in a Delhi court, adding Jacqueline Fernandez as an accused.

Since then, the actress has been at the heart of a protracted argument.

Jacqueline Fernandez has also been questioned by the ED numerous times as part of the investigation.

The ED’s initial charge sheet did not include her name as a defendant, but it did contain details regarding the statement that Bollywood actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi gave in connection with the case.

According to a previous ED charge document, Sukesh allegedly sent expensive gifts and high-end BMW vehicles to Bollywood stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi.

This was clearly stated in the ED charge sheet. “Jacqueline Fernandez claimed to have received gifts, including three designer bags from Gucci, Chanel, and two Gucci workout clothing, in comments she made during the investigation that was captured on video on August 30, 2021, and October 20, 2021.

Two sets of diamond stud earrings, two bracelets by Hermes, a bracelet constructed of a rainbow of colored stones, and a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes. Additionally, she received a Mini Cooper, which she eventually returned.”
