‘We could have chip implants in our brain in 2021’, says Elon Musk

Neuralink- A brain-computer interface company founded by Elon Musk is one of its kind initiative to develop implantable computer chips in the brain to stimulate responses.

The company states that the chip can monitor and record brain functions and activity. Last year a successful trial was conducted on a pig. Many ethical groups have raised voice against the initiative but Space X and Tesla owner Elon Musk states that animals used in the trial are ‘uncomfortable’. This year the implant was used to stimulate responses from monkeys and to try and make a pair of monkeys to control video games.

The next phase of development is said to be targeting humans, the design will implement the new AI to potentially cure neurological diseases.

The buzz around the company has picked up large audiences when Elon Musk signed up for a social media site – Clubhouse and has been using the platform to share information regarding Neuralink.

Elon Musk as a response to an online enquirer about the human trial of Neuralink wrote in his Twitter timeline:

“Neuralink is working super hard to ensure implant safety and is in close communication with the FDA. If things go well, we might be able to do an initial human trial later this year”
